In a sign of the increased globalization of the hedge fund industry, Credit Suisse Index Co. announced Wednesday it is launching a Chinese version of its Web site, making it the first provider of hedge fund indices in that language.

The company said the new Chinese translation reflects an increasing emphasis on the hedge fund industry's growth in Asia. The site will provide Credit Suisse's Broad Index of hedge fund performance, its Blue Chip Investable Index of 60 funds across 10 style-based sectors and its Sector Invest Indices, which provide investment across any of those 10 style-based sectors.

The 10 styles the company tracks are convertible arbitrage, dedicated short bias, emerging markets, equity market neutral, event driven, fixed income arbitrage, global macro, long-short equity, managed futures and multi-strategy. In addition to offering its indices in Chinese, the firm also makes them available on its Web site in English, German and Japanese.

Credit Suisse operates the indices through Credit Suisse Tremont Index, a joint venture between Credit Suisse and Tremont Group. The firm's benchmark Broad Index is currently up more than 7% for the year. The HFN Average, which takes into account a larger number of funds, is up 6.28% for the year.
