Former PIMCO portfolio manager John Brynjolfsson plans to start his own hedge fund, a person familiar with his plans, told Bloomberg. Brynjolfsson, who focused on Treasuries and commodities, will run Armored Wolf with Viking Asset Management principal Ronald Solberg. Armored Wolf will “vary weightings among real asset sectors and securities based on a top-down assessment of the investing environment,” according to the Web site.

Brynjolfsson will be cio and Solberg will serve as vice chairman and co-portfolio manager. Brynjolfsson was with PIMCO from 1989 until his departure in April 2008. He managed the $15.5 billion real return fund until December 2007, as well as the $14.4 billion commodity real return strategy fund.
