TORONTO (HedgeWorld.com)—Sprott Asset Management Inc. has hired Peter Hodson as an investment strategist.

Mr. Hodson was a portfolio manager at Synergy Funds until CI Investments acquired it in 2003. Thereafter he became vice president, portfolio management, at CI and lead portfolio manager of the C$64 million (US$55.4 million) CI Signature Canadian Small Cap Class Fund and the C$211million (US$182.5 million) CI Explorer Fund.

"We believe Peter Hodson will bring a new dynamic to our Investment Management team at SAM as we continue to strengthen our expertise and depth for uncovering valuable investment ideas for Sprott Funds," said SAM's chief executive, Eric Sprott, in a statement.

Mr. Hodson also worked at Waterfall Investments Inc., a Toronto hedge fund company, for a period before returning to CI.

He began his career in the investment industry with Dominion Bond Rating Service, Toronto. He later became associate director of equities at Mutual Asset Management, managing more than C$1 billion in assets in its small cap fund, before helping to launch Synergy in 1997.

SAM is the manager of both mutual and hedge funds with over C$2.8 billion in assets under management, primarily for institutions, endowments and high-net-worth individuals.
