FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Canada’s Hedge Fund / Alternatives Community Once Again Open Their Hearts to Support the Prevention of Child Abuse
Tenth Annual Hedge Funds Care Canada Gala to be held October 23

Toronto ON October 10, 2013 – Leaders of Canada’s alternative investment industry and their guests will gather on Wednesday, October 23 for the ninth annual Open Your Hearts to the Children Gala – a special fundraising evening organized by Hedge Funds Care Canada. The event will be held at Spice Route, 499 King Street West in Toronto.

Hedge Funds Care Canada President and Director Corey Goldman said that all proceeds from the event will go to support local and national foundations that support the prevention and treatment of child abuse. To date, he noted, Hedge Funds Care Canada has raised more than $1.1 million in support of this worthwhile cause.

“We have been very gratified with the generous support of the investment community which has fueled the growth of this important Hedge Funds Care initiative,” he noted. “It’s a remarkable testament to the generosity of those in the alternative investment industry in particular to the prevention of child abuse – both in Canada and internationally”.

Paul Patterson of IAM Group who, along with June-Anne Reid of Scotia Capital and Claire Van Wyk of Arrow Capital Management, is serving as co-Chair of this year’s event, said: “The response to the Gala and the cause it supports has once again been fantastic. Our efforts would not be possible without the incredible support and generosity of our sponsors, including lead sponsor Sprott Asset Management as well as Arrow Capital Management, Polar Securities, MAN Investments, Scotia Capital, Marret Asset Management, and many others.”

About Hedge Funds Care
Hedge Funds Care Canada was established in 2004 as a way for the Canadian hedge fund community to give back to organizations that provide prevention services to children and families who are at risk of abuse and/or neglect, and treatment to children who have been victims of abuse.
Hedge Funds Care Canada is part of a global alliance that began 14 years ago in New York and has grown into an international nonprofit organization. It has branches in 11 major cities in Canada, the United States, the Cayman Islands, and the United Kingdom, and funds more than 100 community organizations worldwide and distributes approximately $3.8 million annually. Hedge Funds Care Canada alone has granted over $1,116,000 through 40 grants since its inception.

Hedge Funds Care is proud to be the only business group solely devoted to combating child abuse, and since its founding has made a powerful contribution to saving children. Because of the shame associated with child abuse, it remains a dramatically under-resourced and rarely discussed problem.
