Forbes Says 400 Richest Americans All Billionaires (Update1)

Sept. 21 (Bloomberg) -- The 400 richest people in the U.S. are all billionaires for the first time ever this year, according to Forbes Magazine's annual list.
Microsoft Corp. founder Bill Gates topped the list for the 13th-straight year, followed by Warren Buffett, chairman and chief executive officer of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. Buffett said in June that he would donate 85 percent of his total stake in the company -- valued at the time at about $37 billion -- to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and four family foundations.
Gates's fortune was estimated at $53 billion, and Buffett's was put at $46 billion. Rounding out the top five were Sheldon Adelson, the chief executive officer of Las Vegas Sands Corp., with $20.5 billion; Oracle Corp. CEO Larry Ellison, with $19.5 billion, and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, with $16 billion.
California is home to 90 of the nation's 400 richest people, or about 23 percent, and 11 percent, or 44, call New York City home, Forbes said.
